Industrial property rights, as well as copyrights, offer a number of benefits to their creators, given that they reward creativity and effort, which provide an added value to the company and a distinctive sign that sets it apart from the rest.

One of the benefits of protecting these rights is that they become an intangible asset. In many occasions, industrial property rights become the most important asset of the company; if they are not properly registered and protected, there is a risk of losing them and being registered by third parties.

When properly registered, their use is protected throughout the country, and royalties may be obtained by granting licenses to third parties who want to use them.

Any individual who creates a design, literary or artistic work, invention or product can benefit from the exclusivity of its use and exploitation, obtaining benefits that can be translated into economic profits. However, in order for an individual to enjoy such benefits they must register their creations with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property.
